Halifax, NS – Nova Scotia Power will be activating its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) on Sunday, February 1 at noon ahead of the incoming winter storm forecasted to impact the province Sunday afternoon into Monday.
“Our team has been monitoring the weather and using that information to finalize plans so we’re ready to respond,” said Charlene MacMullin, Nova Scotia Power’s storm lead. “Based on the recent weather forecasts, we’re opening our Emergency Operations Centre to ensure we are prepared and coordinated in our response efforts as crews are getting ready across the province.”
The EOC provides a central place to coordinate planning for our storm response. The EOC is staffed with employees from all areas of the business and works closely with the Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office (EMO) throughout the storm.
Nova Scotia Power is investing $1.3 billion over five years in work to improve reliability of service for customers by strengthening and modernizing the electricity grid. This includes an average of $250 million in projects across Nova Scotia each year. Over the last four years, we have also increased our investment in tree trimming from $25 million to $45 million.
