Grassroots Grants Program Returns for Second Year Supporting Community Projects
Halifax, NS – Following a successful first year, Nova Scotia Power is bringing back the Grassroots Grants Program in 2026, with $200,000 in funding available to help local organizations turn community-building ideas into action.
The program reflects Nova Scotia Power's commitment to supporting the communities where employees live and work. Community organizations across the province are creating opportunities for connection, supporting local needs, and strengthening communities.
"The response to our first year of Grassroots Grants demonstrated the incredible work that non-profit organizations, charities, and community groups are doing across Nova Scotia," says Jennifer Parker, Vice President of Communications and External Engagement. “We’re proud to build on that momentum by expanding the program and helping bring more local ideas to life. These organizations are making a real difference in their communities, and we're excited to help support projects that matter to Nova Scotians."
Through the inaugural year of Grassroots Grants, 18 organizations across the province received funding for projects that improved community well-being, enhanced local services, and helped address unique local needs.
The North Sydney Food Bank was one of last year’s Grassroots Grants recipients. "Because of the funding from Nova Scotia Power's Grassroots Grants program, we were able to buy a beautiful fridge and freezer combo. That really was a game changer for us," says Stacy Ellis, General Manager of the North Sydney Food Bank. "Without partners, we wouldn't be able to do what we do. They allow us to keep growing and introducing new programs."
Funding is available for initiatives focused on health and wellness, education, community development, food security, safety and resilience, and youth and inclusion. Successful applicants may receive grants of up to $20,000.
Registered non-profits and charities based in Nova Scotia are eligible to apply. Online applications are open October 1, 2026 to November 13, 2026. Successful applicants will be notified early in the new year.
