Lia MacDonald

Senior Vice President, Technology

Lia joined Nova Scotia Power in 2000 and has extensive operational experience, having held increasingly senior roles in the areas of field operations and storm response, work management and resource allocation, asset management, and system and capital planning. Her previous roles include Director of Planning, Senior Director T&D Field Operations, Senior Director Enterprise Asset Management, Vice President Transmission, Distribution & Delivery, and Senior Vice President Customer, Strategy and Transformation

In her time with the company, Lia has played an instrumental role in various operational and regulatory initiatives. In her previous roles, she led teams in overall day-to-day operations including safety and productivity, asset management and customer service in the Transmission, Distribution & Delivery of electricity to customers. Prior to that she co-led the 2020 Integrated Resource Plan - which charts a course for our electricity system’s transformation towards a low-carbon future - while overseeing the integration of the company’s generation, transmission and distribution asset management, reliability, and capital programming. More recently, her focus was on refreshing the company’s Customer Experience strategy as well as the development of Grid Modernization and Electrification strategies through enhanced customer solutions. She also played a key role in the transition of the independent system operator function in Nova Scotia.

In her current role, Lia brings together Information Technology, Operating Technology and Grid Modernization with a focus on better serving our customers. Lia holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie University and is a registered Professional Engineer with Engineers Nova Scotia. She received a Master of Business Administration from the Sobey School of Business Executive MBA program at St. Mary’s University. Lia is an alumna of Nova Scotia’s 21 Inc. Leadership Program, former Board Member of Halifax’s Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre and recent Board Member of United Way Halifax including as Nova Scotia Power’s 2022-2024 Campaign Chair for United Way Maritimes. Lia is currently on the Board at Atlantic Economic Council (AEC).
