Chris Smith

President & CEO

As President & CEO, Chris is leading Nova Scotia Power through a period of significant change in the energy industry—one that he's been part of for nearly 20 years. Working alongside team members across the province, he is focused on delivering safe, reliable service for customers while advancing the investments, innovation, and partnerships needed to support the evolving energy future.

Throughout his career, Chris has built a reputation for bringing people together to solve difficult challenges and create long-term value for customers, his colleagues, stakeholders, and future Nova Scotians. From leadership roles in the utility and energy sectors to serving on numerous community and business boards, he has remained committed to strengthening the organizations and communities that he serves.

Chris joined Nova Scotia Power in 2017 and is the former President of Heritage Gas (now Eastward Energy) and a former Vice President with Nova Scotia Business Inc. He is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant with CPA Nova Scotia and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University.

Outside of work, Chris is a Board member with Halifax Partnership, Athletics Canada, and Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Management. He has previously served on several boards, including the Canadian Gas Association, Symphony Nova Scotia, Dalhousie University's Board of Governors, and Sport Nova Scotia.
