Solar power converts the light of the sun into energy. It is renewable and available almost anywhere on earth. Solar energy applications can be used to either provide heat (solar thermal: hot water, hot air) or electricity (solar photovoltaics, also known as solar PV).
Nova Scotia is a good location to utilize solar energy, and its usage is gaining in popularity for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. It is also used to power off-grid applications like phone systems, remote cottages and road construction signs. Solar energy is not currently being used for larger-scale electrical generation in Nova Scotia, primarily because of economics.
