We own and operate 2,293 megawatts of generation fueled by a mix of renewable energy sources and fossil fuels. Our generating fleet includes five thermal, one tidal and 33 hydro generating facilities, as well as three combustion turbine and two wind turbine sites.
There are currently two Nova Scotia Power-operated wind turbines, located in Grand Etang and Little Brook. We're investing heavily in wind and are currently involved with the development of wind farms across the province.
Nova Scotia Power has 33 hydro plants, generating up to 360 megawatts of electricity, located on 17 hydro river systems.
The Annapolis tidal plant is North America’s first and only tidal plant and can produce up to 20 megawatts of power.
We purchase renewable energy (including wind, hydro and biomass) from independent power producers each year.
Four coal-fired plants are located in Sydney, Point Aconi, Point Tupper and Trenton.
The Tufts Cove plant in Dartmouth has the ability to switch between oil and natural gas. Seven oil-fired combustion turbine units are located in Victoria Junction, Tusket and Burnside.
