Electric vehicles (ev) in Nova Scotia

NS Power has been a key supporter of electric vehicle adoption in Atlantic Canada. We've helped to create the Nova Scotia chapter of Electric Mobility Canada, hosted awareness events like Electric Avenue, and facilitated the install of Atlantic Canada’s second fast charger. We've also partnered with Halifax Transit to conduct an electric bus study, which will assess the opportunity of electrified public transit in the province, and incorporated electric vehicles into our own fleet with plans to incorporate more in the future.

  • More than 130 EVs are registered in Nova Scotia today.
  • There are currently over 100 public charging stations across Nova Scotia– two of which are EV fast chargers (Truro Power Centre and Barrington Street Superstore, Halifax). See a map of all EV chargers in Nova Scotia.
  • Almost every major car manufacturer has plans to release an electric vehicle in the next few years. Plug-in brands available in Nova Scotia today include: Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Tesla, Volkswagen, Volvo.
  • In 2011, NS Power launched the ShareReady program to find out if Nova Scotia was ready for electric vehicles. Learn more about the program here.
