Sara Phinney

Vice President, Human Resources

Sara Phinney joined Nova Scotia Power as Vice President of Human Resources in 2017.

Sara supports Nova Scotia Power’s business vision through our people strategy. She works collaboratively with our talented employees to enable the delivery of superior service to our customers. Sara launched our Diversity & Inclusion Network which has changed the way we recruit and develop employees, and is just one reason we are considered an employer of choice. Electricity Human Resources Canada recognized Sara in 2018 with the national Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award, for being a champion of diversity and inclusion, a role model for developing and cultivating strategies in the organization, and for communicating the rationale for these strategies to employees.

Prior to working at Nova Scotia Power, Sara had almost 20 years of experience in roles of increasing responsibility within Human Resources at Loblaw. She most recently held the role of Director of Human Resources and Labour Relations for Supply Chain Operations with regional responsibility. In her role she partnered with business leaders at a national, regional and local level to help develop and execute business strategy, ensuring representation of the employees in the strategy. She delivered results within many different aspects of human resources, including large projects, coaching, culture shaping, talent management, employee development, change management, workforce planning, and labour relations.

She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, with concentrations in Engineering and Human Resources, from the University of New Brunswick
