HALIFAX – As of 7:30 p.m. this evening (WEDNESDAY) Nova Scotia Power has safely restored power to 112,000 customers who lost power due to the major winter storm that hit the province yesterday and continued through today.
“Crews have pushed through challenging conditions and continue to make significant progress for our customers,” said Sean Borden, Nova Scotia Power’s Storm Lead. “High winds today caused new outages and resulted in more damage in many communities. Crews have been replacing snapped poles and dealing with fallen trees on lines. Still, we anticipate restoring service to the vast majority of customers this evening.”
For the majority of customers who lost their power during the storm and remain out, estimated restoration time is 11:30 p.m. tonight. Some smaller outages that occurred today, and others in isolated areas or where crews have found more extensive damage requiring more complicated repairs, will be restored by 11:30 a.m. tomorrow (THURSDAY).
“Work won’t stop until all customers have their power restored. For those customers who will be restored tomorrow, we have been contacting them to provide the updated information,” Borden said.
Nova Scotia Power has approximately 800 people working on outage restoration, including 95 external powerline technicians from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Florida, who joined the restoration effort today. Customers who need electricians
Nova Scotia Power cannot restore power to customers who sustained damage to their electrical equipment until they have an electrician make repairs.
For example, if a customer’s meter mast is damaged, a certified electrician needs to make repairs before Nova Scotia Power can safely restore power. The meter mast is the tube that connects the service line to a customer’s home to their electric meter.
Nova Scotia Power can help customers find an electrician. A list of electricians who are prepared to help is located here, nspower.ca/electricians
