Nova Scotia Power storm restoration update
HALIFAX – Nova Scotia Power and contractor crews continue to make steady progress on restoration efforts following a severe storm that brought strong winds on Thursday and Friday.
“As of this morning (SATURDAY), we have safely restored power to over 275,000 customers who lost service on Thursday and Friday due to the storm,” said Stephen Pothier, Nova Scotia Power storm lead. “Approximately 4,000 customers remain without power and we’re confident that virtually all customers will be restored today (SATURDAY).”
More than 1,000 people continue to be dedicated to storm response, including frontline powerline and forestry crews, damage assessors, planners, engineers, support staff, and customer care representatives.
“We have more contractor crews coming in today to help us get power back on for all customers as quickly as possible,” said Pothier. “Assessors are in the field visually inspecting each outage area to help inform our work planning and dispatch of crews throughout the day.”
As teams access outage sites and field-validate what repairs are needed, individual estimated restoration times are being updated. Customer can get those updates by going to the outage map at outagemap.nspower.ca or by calling our outage line at 1-877-428-6004.
To help ensure power is restored as quickly as possible, customers should check for damage to their electrical equipment, such as their meter mast, which is the tube that connects the service line to a customer’s home to their electric meter. If their electrical equipment is damaged, customers need a certified electrician to make repairs before Nova Scotia Power can safely restore power. A list of electricians who are prepared to help is available at www.nspower.ca/electricians, and Customer Care Representatives can also help connect customers to electricians at 1-877-428-6004.
Nova Scotia Power customer service centres in Kentville, Chester, Stellarton and Shelburne, as well as our head office in Halifax, are open as comfort centres from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Customers without power can warm up, have some coffee or hot chocolate, and recharge their devices. The specific locations are:

- Stellarton – 26 Bridge Avenue
- Shelburne – 261 Ohio Road
- Halifax – 1223 Lower Water Street
