Nova Scotia Power crews work round the clock to restore power

HALIFAX, NS – Nova Scotia Power crews and contract crews have been working in extreme weather conditions, restoring power to thousands of customers since the blizzard hit overnight Sunday.

“Our crews have restored power to more than 48,000 customers as of 6 o’clock this morning,” said NS Power Storm Lead Steve Pothier. “Our crews will continue to work to safely restore power until every customer has their electricity back.”

Crews have experienced difficulty in accessing outages due to poor visibility and road conditions. The utility anticipates these conditions will improve throughout the day and that restorations will proceed in all areas of Nova Scotia.

“We are estimating power restoration of the majority of our customers by the end of day Tuesday. Our crews assess both the road conditions and wind speed when determining if it is safe for them to restore power,” Pothier said.

NS Power has more than 380 field personnel positioned throughout the province to safely restore power, including 184 NS Power line crews, contractor line crews, forestry crews and damage assessment teams.

Customers can get their estimated restoration times by visiting the outage map at and by calling the outage information line at 1-877-428-6004. As crews get onsite and are able to assess damage, those estimated restoration times may be updated to give customers more specific information.

Pothier said Nova Scotia Power appreciates customers’ patience as the utility works to restore their power, and crews are grateful for the support and gratitude they are receiving from customers.
