Power restoration efforts continue "At Full Force" after this weekend's storm
HALIFAX – As of Sunday morning, Nova Scotia Power crews have restored electricity to 90 per cent of customers who lost power on Friday and Saturday. Restoration efforts continue and steady progress is being made to bring the power back on for those customers who were hardest hit by this weekend’s storm.
Throughout Saturday night, crews used flood lights to continue power restoration work. At daylight on Sunday, the company’s full complement of powerline crews is joined again by more than 100 contract crews and 30 tree crews to continue repairing the damage from the storm.
Helicopter patrols will also resume in the skies at first light to assess storm impacts, while damage assessment crews continue on the ground.
The company aims to have power restored for all customers by end of day Sunday.
“Crews have been working around the clock. This morning, we are at full force again to do everything we can to have all our customers back on by the end of the day,” said Paul Casey, NS Power Storm Lead and Senior Director of Transmission & Distribution.
Some areas of the province were particularly hard hit by heavy and wet snowfall, such as Eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. Impassable road conditions and thick ice build-up on trees and power lines have slowed restoration efforts during and after the storm.
Nova Scotia Power is working closely with the Department of Transportation as needed to gain access to areas that are without power.
Casey said the company would continue to throw every resource it has at the remaining outages, and would not rest until every one of Nova Scotia Power’s customers has their power restored.
