March 15, 2020: Covid-19 update

The COVID-19 pandemic environment is evolving, and, as you know, the policies and protocols to manage through it are changing too. One thing that does not change in the face of this pandemic or any other crisis, is Nova Scotia Power’s commitment to providing our customers with safe, reliable and affordable electricity. I want to assure you of our vigilance and ability to adapt to the quick pace of change in this pandemic, enabling us to continue to deliver your essential service, and that we will do so with a strong focus on health and safety, as we do, every day.

We have been planning for the pandemic since January, monitoring the spread and anticipating the adaptations we would need to implement to continue to serve our customers. To that end, our pandemic and business contingency planning is in place and being implemented throughout the business. 

As there is nothing more important than the health and safety of our customers, employees and the communities in which we operate, we have activated the following measures:

  • Requiring all employees to cease non-essential business travel and monitoring any personal travel plans, imposing a 14-day self isolation following travel outside of Canada.
  • Requesting all employees with flu-like symptoms to remain at home and monitoring those employees through our health and wellness team.
  • Increasing our cleaning and disinfecting regimens throughout our facilities, and
  • Implementing social distancing practices throughout the business.

Our pandemic leadership team continues to work with our parent company Emera, health authorities and government to provide our essential service to you, while minimizing the risk to our employees and communities. We will continue to communicate important details to you as this work continues.
