Thank you, Nova Scotia!

Nova Scotia – thank you.

Two back-to-back storms brought some of the worst weather our province has seen since Hurricane Juan. This meant half-cooked turkeys, last minute changes of plans, preparing for holiday traditions in the dark – a challenge to say the least.

But throughout it all, you shared kind words, showed your support for our employees, volunteered in your communities, checked on your neighbours, and so much more. Simply put, you were Nova Scotians. Thank you.

Storm response takes a lot of coordinated teamwork. We want to recognize the emergency response efforts from all groups involved, including first responders, fire departments, RCMP and police officers, the NS Emergency Management Office, to name a few.

The teams of power line technicians who stepped up to help out from across Canada were remarkable. Crews from as far as Ontario drove to the east coast, received training on our safety protocols, met our teams, and got to work for our customers. Thank you to New Brunswick Power, Hydro Quebec, Emera Utility Services, Black & McDonald, K-line Construction Ltd., Holland Power Services, Gagnon Construction, K&M Utilities, E&E Powerline, Tri-Wire, Powertel Utilities Contractors, Saint John Energy, Hydro One, Dunas, Asplundh Tree Service and Lucas Tree Experts.

We encourage all Nova Scotians to be storm-ready year round. To reiterate what you should do before the next storm hits:

  • Learn about our Critical Customer Communication Program. Spread the word to those in your life who should be part of the program.
  • If you buy a generator, install it properly, purchase a carbon monoxide detector, and review safe generator operation.
  • Bookmark our outage map at Keep our outage line close by – 1-877-428-6004.
  • Have an emergency kit ready.
