Welcome to the neighbourhood, Discovery Centre!
At NS Power, we are excited to officially welcome the Discovery Centre to the neighbourhood!
On February 12, the Discovery Centre celebrated the grand opening of their new facility on Lower Water Street in Halifax. Their new facility is housed in NS Power’s headquarters and we are delighted to provide them with free rent and a $1 million donation over 25 years.
Investing in the growth of our communities is a large commitment we hold at NS Power and we are pleased to add our partnership with the Discovery Centre to our ever-growing story. From the beginning it was clear that this partnership made sense, as both NS Power and the Discovery Centre foster an innovative culture and promote exploration of new technology.
We welcome them to a building that holds a rich history in innovation. Since 1841, the building and its property have been home to a variety of technological pioneers in Nova Scotia. Here stood the first generating station in Nova Scotia and the building was the former home to Electropolis Studios, who for nearly a decade, produced internationally successful and award winning work.
“Today the history lives on as it will continue to be home to innovation and discovery,” said NS Power’s Chief Operating officer Mark Sidebottom at a Discovery Centre pre-launch event on February 10. “Here is where future leaders, ideas and possibilities will come together and take Nova Scotia into the future.”
The Discovery Centre’s new world-class facility showcases more than 40,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art exhibit space, including the NS Power sponsored Energy Gallery, which is a hands-on experience that focuses on all aspects of sustainable and renewable energy. The exhibit includes displays on the different kinds of energy generation, along with a simulation game that teaches players the scientific and social impacts of energy generation and distribution in a community.
We are honoured to have played a part in funding this amazing new facility and we encourage our customers to check it out for themselves! To learn more about the Discovery Centre and its new facility visit thediscoverycentre.ca.
