Why does my power go out?

There are many  reasons the power to your home might go out. Here are the three most common reasons for outages:

Weather-related outagesCan be caused by lightning, snow and ice storms, high winds, hurricanes or other extreme weather conditions.

Non-weather-related outagesCan be caused by cars hitting utility poles, equipment problems, construction activity and trees or animals contacting the power lines.

Planned outages
Occur when Nova Scotia Power needs to make repairs or improve reliability to the power lines by making upgrades to equipment.
