Customer Tree Requests

Do you have questions about a tree that is growing too close to a power line on your property? Wondering who to call?

To provide you with the best service possible, Nova Scotia Power focuses on customer tree trimming requests that are near dangerous power lines to ensure you are kept safe.

Primary and secondary wires are high voltage and dangerous. These are the wires that run along your street and should only be trimmed by Nova Scotia Power. If you see a tree that needs to be trimmed near these lines, please call us at 1-800-428-6230.

The service wire or the line that connects your house to the street power lines will need an external local contractor to complete tree work. If the casing around the service wire has been damaged or a tree or branch is leaning heavily on the service wire, please call us to report the tree at 1-800-428-6230.

Before you start your next landscaping project, make sure you plan before you plant. Taller trees and power lines don’t mix well together.

Choosing the right tree benefits your family, your property and the environment:

  • You’ll help prevent safety hazards and power outages. You’ll also reduce the need for tree maintenance around power lines.
  • Trees have a direct effect on the environment by removing carbon dioxide, generating oxygen and capturing dust and smog particles.
  • Trees have a cooling effect by providing shade during the hot summer months and they reduce energy costs for air-conditioning and water use.
  • Large trees promote wildlife habitats in our communities.
