You may be seeing more Nova Scotia Power crews around your neighbourhood in the coming months. As part of a long-term plan, NS Power is undertaking several initiatives to maintain and improve performance of the province’s electrical system.
Maintaining, strengthening and improving the electrical system are not new to NS Power. Every year, millions of dollars are invested in efforts to strengthen over 30,000 kilometers of distribution and transmission power lines throughout the province. But, as equipment ages over time and the province continues to experience strong storms, the need to invest in our electrical system grows. As a responsible provider of electricity for Nova Scotians, NS Power is ready to meet this need and ensure that we safely and effectively deliver reliable power to our customers.
Over the next five years NS Power will spend an additional $100 million over and above the usual yearly investments in reliability improvements to the electrical system. Key strategies include identifying and making improvements to aging equipment, upgrading system technology and hardening transmission infrastructure so that it performs better during adverse weather.
While many key initiatives have begun, this is a long-term plan and work will continue for some time. NS Power is committed to undertaking these initiatives in order to better serve Nova Scotians. Every day crews are in local communities working to ensure that we deliver electricity to Nova Scotians as safely and effectively as we can. | NS Power crews will be working to strengthen the electrical system accross the province
