HALIFAX, NS – Nova Scotia Power is warning the public of a telephone scam that has been reported to the company. In this scam, a caller claims to represent “associates of Nova Scotia Power,” or one of a number of companies, including Hydro Canada, Nova Scotia Hydro and Power Company. The caller offers to sell the customer a device to reduce their power consumption.
These calls are not from Nova Scotia Power and the purported energy savings devices don’t exist. To date, there have been no reports of customers suffering a loss as a result of the scam. To protect customers’ privacy, Nova Scotia Power never divulges any personal information relating to customer accounts.
If customers receive a suspicious call, they are encouraged to phone NS Power’s Customer Service line at 1-800-428-6230. Our representatives will collect information about the call and report any suspicious calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre – www.antifraudcentre.ca.
