Fewer than 700 customers remained without electricity late this afternoon after intense winds and heavy rains swept through the province for two days.
Nova Scotia Power crews have restored more than 95 per cent of customers – over 191,000 - since the storm began in the western end of the province early Monday morning.
There were 93 Nova Scotia Power and contract crews and 27 tree cutting crews working today and restoration efforts will continue overnight.
Most of the crews, that’s 61 line crews and25 tree cutting crews, focused their efforts on reparing damage in Sydney, which was hardest hit. A further 22 crews worked in Stellarton, Antigonish, Goshen and Guysborough and surrounding communities and six crews were dedicated to repairing damage in the Port Hawkesbury/River Bourgeois areas.
As of 4 p.m., 642 of the 685 customers still without power are in Cape Breton and the eastern area of the mainland.
We are confident the majority of the remaining customers will be back on this evening and all customers will be reconnected by 11 a.m. Friday. In some cases, customers may also need to undertake repairs to their properties before the utility can gain access and restore power.
