Nova Scotia Power warns of fraudulent email containing virus

November 23, 2015

HALIFAX, NS – Nova Scotia Power is urging customers to beware of fraudulent emails that appear to be from the utility. The subject line of the email is Download Your E-Bill, includes Nova Scotia Power’s corporate logo and contains instructions to open a ZIP file that contains a virus.

These emails are not from Nova Scotia Power. Nova Scotia Power does not provide customers’ e-bill in a ZIP file format and customers do not need to download any component of their bill in order to view it.

Nova Scotia Power’s e-bill notification emails are sent from home@nspower.ca and never include attachments. The body of this email provides links to a secure website that prompts customers to login with their MyAccount information to view their e-bill.

The main indicator of the fraudulent emails is that they are not sent from a Nova Scotia Power ([at]nspower.ca) email address. Customers who are suspicious about an email should call our Customer Care Centre at 1-800-428-6230 to confirm legitimacy.
