What is A Distribution Zone?

A distribution zone is a geographical area serviced with electricity from specific equipment within a local substation.

More specifically, it’s a service area that receives electricity through distribution feeders that emanate from a single distribution supply transformer within a substation. The distribution supply transformer supplies all electricity to a specific distribution zone, meaning that any electricity fed onto the grid within a distribution zone cannot be transmitted beyond that distribution zone.

The animation below helps describe what a distribution zone is and how it is an important component to our Net Metering program. If you’re interested in the Net Metering service and have questions about your distribution zone, contact netmetering@nspower.ca.
