Community Feed-in Tariff (COMFIT)

Community Feed-In Tariff

COMFIT applications are to be submitted through the Department of Energy through their website at www.nsrenewables.ca. For specific questions about the COMFIT application process, please contact the COMFIT Administrator at comfit@gov.ns.ca.

Nova Scotia Power’s role is to provide technical support to COMFIT applicants and safely manage the distribution system interconnection process on behalf of all our customers.

For COMFIT applications over 100kW nameplate capacity:

You are required to have a preliminary interconnection assessment performed for your proposed project site. This assessment includes the distribution level capacity that is available at the location you are considering. It is important to note that this initial assessment by NS Power does not guarantee you will receive the capacity indicated as being available at the proposed project location.

Please visit the Open Access Same-time Information System (OASIS) for more information on interconnection procedures and forms for these projects.

For COMFIT applications with 100kW nameplate capacity or less:

You are required to provide written evidence of discussions with NS Power to demonstrate to the COMFIT Administrator that NS Power knows the size and location of your generator to provide you with the straight-line distance to the nearest point of interconnection.

Please call our Customer Care Centre at 1-800-428-6230 or send an email to nspower.ca to initiate this preliminary assessment.

Please include:

  • Contact information
  • kW of proposed generator
  • Type of generator (single or three phased)
  • Address, including county and Property Identification Number

To interconnect to Nova Scotia Power’s Distribution System, you must also fill out a COMFIT Interconnection Request and Equipment Information Form (100kW and less), and mail along with all accompanying information to the following address:

Nova Scotia Power Inc.
P.O. Box 910
Halifax, NS, B3J 2W5
Attn: Metering and Inspection Services

Please ensure that you familiarize yourself with the Interconnection Guideline document prior to submitting your interconnection request.

An interconnection agreement must also be signed prior to interconnecting to NS Power’s distribution system. Upon system planning approval of your interconnection request and equipment information form, NS Power will contact you to submit a COMFIT Class 1 Interconnection Agreement.
