On Oct. 12, 13, and 23, Nova Scotia Power and a Public Advisory Committee of community representatives hosted a series of open house sessions to present to the public the work, the process and the thinking that has gone into determining shortlisted options for a new transmission line that will serve approximately 35,000 customers in Dartmouth, Cole Harbour and Eastern Passage. The information and display materials that were provided at the open house series are now available below.

Nova Scotia Power needs to increase the electricity supply to Dartmouth, Cole Harbour and Eastern Passage. It’s a growth area, and the existing system is at capacity.
We began our community outreach in May with a public meeting in Cole Harbour, where residents told us they wanted more opportunity for input into route options. We agree with that approach. So we are working with the communities of Dartmouth, Cole Harbour and Eastern Passage to form a Public Advisory Committee that will represent all the various interests.
Our efforts to date have identified a number of community representatives from Cole Harbour willing to participate in the committee. We continue to seek volunteers, particularly from Eastern Passage and the Penhorn/Woodlawn area. We are advertising in local community papers.
The committee will meet on a regular basis for a number of months. Committee members will be selected to represent a broad spectrum of community interests.
We’re analyzing options and once the Public Advisory Committee is in place, it will help us assess those options. Our review of the options has broadened our perspective on the need for transmission enhancement and the communities involved. We now refer to this as the Harbour East project, because the area of need and benefit covers the same basic geography as the Harbour East community council of Halifax Regional Municipality.
In terms of a timeline, we hope to have the first meeting of the Public Advisory Committee by mid-October. Having said that, Nova Scotia Power is committed to taking the time to make sure we have the right community representation, the right consultation process and all the possible route options on the table.
Further updates will be posted to this site as the consultation process and the project progress.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
Sincerely,
Terry Toner
