Canadian Tire store converts to energy efficient lighting

Jeff Burley noticed something about his customers. At his Canadian Tire store in Lower Sackville Jeff saw that customers were increasingly choosing and buying energy efficient light bulbs. That got Jeff thinking that the lighting he uses in the store should match his customers’ values and be energy efficient.

Several months later the Lower Sackville Canadian Tire upgraded their lights to save on energy. Busy customers don’t much notice the difference but the new fluorescent lights use less electricity and cut down on the company’s power bill. Read more.

Seaside Elementary wins Carbon Footprint Contest

There’s nothing like a perfect spring day to get outside and celebrate the earth. Especially when it means getting out of the classroom. “The day was fun and interesting. We're all happy that we won,” said Nathaniel, a grade 5 student at Seaside Elementary.

Seaside Elementary along with 13 other schools worked with Clean Nova Scotia all year to understand the importance of saving energy. Read more.

Lake City Woodworkers cuts back on energy use

LakeCity WoodWorkers is well known for its wood furniture and for being a community leader. This year they also became an environmental leader. The medium sized furniture manufacturer in Dartmouth cut back on energy use by upgrading their lighting. Lights were converted to more energy efficient ones throughout their workshop. In one area they switched from T12 Fluorescent lights to High Performance T8. These lights use about 40 per cent less energy. Energy savings isn’t the only benefit, they last longer and are flicker free. Read More.

OspreyCam takes flight!

Once again Nova Scotia Power is excited to present the OspreyCam. This summer power line crews have worked diligently to ensure the project is running smoothly for osprey enthusiasts.

Nova Scotia Power powerline technician, Andrew MacEachern said, “I have two children and they are very excited they can watch the osprey online. It is one of the reasons I enjoy being involved in this project.” Read more.
