HALIFAX, NS- Nova Scotia Power’s customer operations team has achieved a remarkable safety milestone – one million person-hours without a lost time injury. This team of employees provides day-to-day service directly to customers, and many of them are the people Nova Scotians see working outside during storms.
The operations group reached this milestone on Sept. 20. Last September, employees at the Lingan Generating Station also reached the million-hour mark, becoming the first generating location to do so.
“Safety does not just happen. It takes the hard work of many employees to achieve this remarkable feat,” said Rick Janega, Chief Operating Officer of NS Power. “We are very proud of this group and recognize that their hard work and dedication to safety has allowed them to reach this milestone.”
The operations team has more than 500 employees and spans challenging jobs from Yarmouth to Sydney. The group includes control centre workers, planners, engineers, fleet operations, vegetation management and power line technicians stationed across Nova Scotia.
“Safety takes precedence over everything we do,” said Wayne Legge, transmission and distribution supervisor in Coldbrook. “From the dangerous jobs to the tidiness of our trucks and work spaces, all jobs are to be done safely. This is how we have reached this milestone. “
NS Power has 99 customer operations workers in the Western region, including 31 at the Coldbrook depot.
Various ceremonies will occur across the province to mark this special achievement for the customer operations team members.
