About 12 per cent of the electricity used in Nova Scotia every day comes from renewable energy sources, like wind, hydro, tidal and biomass. That’s enough to supply about 150,000 homes.
There are more than 40 wind turbines in Nova Scotia, stretching from Yarmouth County to Inverness County. Nova Scotia has more wind turbines producing more electricity for domestic consumption than any other Atlantic province.
A Waste Heat Recovery project at the Tufts Cove Generating Station in Dartmouth will capture otherwise wasted energy and convert it into enough power to supply 25,000 homes by 2010.
We also own and operate one of only three tidal power plants in the world – the Annapolis Tidal Power Plant in Annapolis Royal. Right now, it’s the only one in the Western hemisphere.
